Ravi Uppaluri completed his undergraduate degree at Carleton College, Northfield MN. Under the mentorship of John Tymoczko, he got his first exposure to laboratory research. He then went on to medical and graduate school at the University of Minnesota in Minneaoplis and was awarded his MD/PhD in June, 1995. He completed doctoral work in Howard Towle's laboratory in Genetics focusing on structure-function studies of the thyroid hormone receptor.
Dr. Uppaluri then completed his Otolaryngology/ Head and Neck Surgery residency at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Hewish hospital in St. Louis, MO (1995-2000). During PGY3 year of residency (1998), wanting to learn about tumor immunology, he joined Dr. Robert Schreiber's laboratory. This work continued as Dr. Uppaluri joined the WashU Otolaryngology/Head & Surgery faculty under an NCI K08 award working in Dr. Schreiber's lab. This combined training in head and neck surgery and tumor immunology forms the foundation of his laboratory efforts.
In addition to his laboratory work focused on HNSCCs, he takes care of patients in the Dana-Farber/ Brigham and Women's Cancer head and neck cancer treatment center. He also leads the Brigham Health Division of Otolaryngology/ Head & Neck Surgery.
In his free time, Dr. Uppaluri spends time with his 3 kids and wife (well, more like they put up with him....!), reads, listens to music and rides his bike.
